Our Life

This last month hasn't been the easiest for Mike and I. For reasons I'd rather not disclose we decided we needed a short weekend away, so off to Moab we went. I somehow managed to lose almost all of the photos of the trip in cyberspace, so this is what was left:

It was a fabulous vacation, and although it didn't make everything better, it was a much needed weekend away. Many thanks to mike's mom for watching our doggies.
Speaking of our doggies, this is Whoka {pronounced hookah}.

Whoka was 14 years old! that is one old dog, and let me tell you, he lived all of his 14 years to the fullest. As a puppy he traveled up and down the wolf mountain slopes with mike on a snowmobile when he was employed as a snowmaker there. He was trained as an avalanche dog and did a lot of heli-skiing with Mike back in the day. He also summitted Mt. Shasta, Hayden Peak, Timpanogas, and a whole bunch of others with Mike. He was probably the only dog to ever summit Mt. hood on the route that Mike took.

Needless to say, Whoka was an amazing dog! It was sad to see him deteriorating in his old age. Mike made the decision, and we took him to the vet yesterday, and said goodbye. That was especially hard for Mike.
I'll never really understand the bond he had with that dog. We grew up with so many pets, and they came and went pretty quickly. As a result I probably take the loss of a pet lightly compared to most. Maybe I will understand more fully when we lose Uinta. Technically she is Megan's dog, but we've adopted her. She is such a friendly, happy little dog, and I Love her playful nature. Right now she is shedding like crazy! We vacuum everyday, and you wouldn't believe me if you saw the rug. It is literally covered in blond fluffy tufts of hair.
I've been meaning for a while to post something about our cabin up here in the woods. I am not a great photographer, by any means, so It's really hard to really capture how quaint our little cabin is, but I'll post the photos that I have.

If you look hard you can see Timpanogas at the end of the canyon. This is the view from our deck! It is definitely one of my favorite things about this place. I never thought I would be moving back to Oakley when I so eagerly moved in with Dad at Dodee and Papa's house. As a teenager i always felt stranded, this place was confining. Now that i am back, I appreciate the peace and quiet so much more.

Our Cabin is a little cluttered at the moment. You can see the loft upstairs, the kitchen below it, and part of our living room here. There's also a bathroom there in the corner. Behind where i was standing when I took the photo is the breakfast nook, and the deck. There is a Hole in the floor to the left of the photo, with a ladder that goes down to the bedroom. We love our cozy little cabin!!!!

Best Friends

I think sometimes the most powerful friendships are the unexpected, or unconventional ones. Mike and I may have a little age difference between us
But we have such a great relationship.
So forget age

We are happy, and after all that's what really matters, right?
We have had an insane 6 months, and its getting even more exciting with every day.

I wish I was from New Zealnd

What a novel Idea. I wish they had this on my flight to Thailand. 11 hours in an upright position was impossible.

I hope they break their leg

So my Snowboard got stolen OUT OF MY LOCKER! who does that? I hate the feeling that comes after your robbed. I feel violated, and regardless of what happens, a new snowboard, or free money to buy a new snowboard, it doesn't change that you were robbed. It really sucks. PLUS I really loved that board. UGH!

I guess what that means is I gotta look for a new board at a good price. Here are my top choices, mostly because of how awesome they look, but i maade sure to actually research them and make sure they are functional. !

Catching up

Since i haven't been blogging much lately, there is a lot of catching up to do.

We'll start with my birthday party, which was so killer. Jimmy let me use his house, D and I drove to wyoming for the kegs, and a lot of people showed up. I can't imagine what it would have been like if it was during the ski season, and everyone was back in town.

Ella was born on 9/6, and she weighed exactly 9 pounds and 6 ounces. Ironic? She is the most awesome, adorable little baby and I am Inlove with her little smiles and giggles and noises. Josh and Kristy are the most amazing parents!

Ever since she was born I have become obsessed with baby stuff, and I have probably spent way too much on her already. Sometimes I see something, and i just can't help it. I just have to buy it for her, after all she is the only baby in the family right now. Mike loves to visit Ella with me, and he calls her elephant. I think it's so cute.

Mike and I visited California earlier in Jan. to attend his dad's wedding. It was an awesome wedding, there were only 6 of us in attendance. It was great to spend time with his brother John again as well. It's a little foreign to me to have family that lives more than a few hours away.

I absolutely love mike's family. It was interesting because it was his first time meeting Nancy's children too, it was kind of a cool union of two families.

Cambria was an amazing area. I've only visited hot sandy beaches, but this place was a little cold, and really rocky. the humidity was wonderful! I was so happy not to be in Utah during the crazy cold dry weather.

Friendship

"I think if i've learned anything about friendship, it's to
hang in, stay connected, fight for them, and let them fight for you. Don't walk away, don't be distracted, don't be too busy or tired, don't take them for granted. Friends are part of the glue that holds life and faith together. Powerful stuff."

-Jon Katz
I recently reunited with an old friend. We haven't seen eachother in over a year, because I took her for granted for a long time. I've realized through losing a great friend, and then gaining her back that friends are something to cherish, especially the ones who would do anything for you.
